EVENTS
We offer the following monthly/yearly events:
The site of Treyburn had been part of the Thomas family since 1828 when Charles and Ruth Thomas purchased the land. They farmed the land for several years, and in 1848 built their home. In 1853, their son, Joe started one of Pennsylvania’s first nurseries, Joseph W. Thomas and Sons. Both Joe and his son Raymond graduated from Penn State and Harvard, respectively, in the 1800’s with degrees in landscape architecture. Their education and wonderful selection of specimen trees helped the nursery become the supplier to all Main Line residences.
Filling the landscape of Treyburn today, these mature specimen trees serve as a warm reminder of that land’s history and help contribute to its natural beauty and privacy.
After almost 200 years of farming and nursery business, the Thomas family decided to sell their land in 1988. They received offers from over 23 builders and developers. One of these offers was from Tom Bentley. His offer wasn’t the highest; in fact it wasn’t even close. But Tom Bentley had a development plan that went beyond simply building homes, it was creative and sensitive to the history of the land and the community. Because of his goal of retaining the character of the site, and his history of fine workmanship, the Thomas family chose Bentley to develop their land … and so began Bentley at Treyburn.
